About Loggos
Paxos is located just off the southern tip of Corfu, in the Ionian Sea. Steeped in history and covered by an estimated 300,000 olive trees, roughly 120 for every resident, the island measures only eight miles end to end. Its natural beauty combined with its understated easy going nature – there are no glitzy boutiques or fancy resorts or hotels of almost any kind – has made it one of the most desirable destinations in Greece. Loggos, the smallest of the three harbours on the island, is only a short walk downhill from the house. This irresistible little Greek jewel of a fishing village boasts some of the finest waterfront restaurants and bars.
The area around Loggos is renowned as one of the best snorkeling spots on the island owing to its crystal clear waters that must be experienced first hand. Whether chartering a yacht or motorboat for lunch on Anti Paxos (4 miles away) or exploring hidden beauty in each bay, dropping anchor to swim in the breathtaking caves along the coastline is a must.
The east coast features white pebble bays, while the west is adorned with majestic white cliffs and deep caves, providing families with a variety of exploration opportunities. For the more adventurous, there are walks through flower-filled olive groves, gentle fishing, snorkeling, and diving.
Renowned British explorer and historian Tim Severin identified Paxos as the Homeric island where Odysseus fell under the spell of Circe. Circe, the sorceress who transformed Odysseus's sailors into swine and took him as her lover, hosted him with lavish hospitality for a year before he gathered the will to resume his journey. Embracing Paxos is indeed best enjoyed by slowing down, relaxing, and allowing nature to take its course.
